Some clubs operate without what is deemed, the right qualifications to teach, meaning there is more chance of you getting injured and not being taught correctly.
Some clubs do operate without any insurance or have the wrong policy, that may not cover you as a student.
Being a Member of a Professional Peak Body gives you extra peace of mind because Clubs need to meet an industry standard to be accepted and adhere to the appropriate codes of practice.

WE EVALUATE CLUBS / INSTRUCTORS IN THE FOLLOWING CHECKS:
Qualifications (Martial Arts, Defensive Tactics, Coaching, Fitness, Trainer & Assessor, Business, OH&S)
Sports Insurance (appropriate level of cover for instructors, students and all helpers)
First Aid Attendants (required on hand during training)
Working with Children Card (required for teaching students under the age of 18 years)
Weapons Licence (required if training with prohibited weapons)
Police (checks required to teach at some schools, corporations and government departments)
Risk Management policy (required to provide the appropriate duty of care for students / staff)
General Policies/Procedures (required for student terms/conditions of membership-refunds etc)
You can ask the instructor / school owner any of these questions as they are reasonable requests.
Every school will have a deal, but price shouldn't be your main factor in your choice. Many clubs will ask you sign up for a set duration and this is a two sided commitment, when you turn up they teach you, so you need to be committed to turn up and pay as well to preserve your space.
